Day 2
Fly Kathmandu-Paro drive Thimphu

After breakfast and any last minute shopping, we will transfer from our hotel to the international airport for our short flight to Bhutan. Although the flight only lasts a little over an hour, it must be one of the most spectacular flights in the world as we fly along the Great Himalayan Range and some of the planet’s highest peaks including Mount Everest. We will be met at Paro airport by our local guide and drive the short distance to the capital, Thimphu.

After lunch at our hotel we will see some of the landmarks in the capital such as the National Chorten and Library and the huge statue of Buddha that towers over the surrounding countryside. We will also have a chance to see how Bhutan has managed to preserve its unique arts and crafts in their traditional schools and meet the country’s strange national animal – the Takin. The country’s national sport of archery is often on display in the archery ground just opposite our hotel.
