As with all my journeys, I have designed this one to find a balance between comfort and cost. The bulk of the journey involves trekking and camping in very remote areas and I have made sure that our camping staff and porters are sufficient to allow us all to enjoy the experience to its fullest. You can do the above itinerary in a shorter time but I wanted to give us as comfortable and enjoyable a trip as possible over a very wild landscape while keeping the duration manageable.
The cost of the 21 day journey will be:
* U.S. Dollars - US $4680 (four thousand, six hundred and eighty US dollars)
Please note that our prices are subject to foreign exchange rates and their fluctuations. Although we will make every effort to maintain these prices as above, we reserve the right to adjust them up to the date of final payment in order to fairly reflect any significant changes in international exchange rates that may occur.
You will have to arrive in Kathmandu by making your own arrangements. The above price includes the Kathmandu-Nepalganj-Simikot flights, all airport transfers, all visas and permits for China, an English-speaking guide in Nepal and Tibet, monastery entrance fees, sight-seeing as per the itinerary, all lodging, breakfast when staying in hotels and all meals when camping. It also includes the back-up crew of yaks and yak men for the kora, cooks, helpers, porters, sherpas and drivers for the vehicles. The cars are Toyota Landcruisers (4500 model).
It does not include personal expenses such as laundry, postage and drinks, travel and health insurances, emergency evacuation, tips and gratuities, Nepal entry visa and any costs arising from unforeseen events outside the control of the tour company (eg landslides/bad weather).
Please note that as mountain weather is never predictable, everyone should be aware that any extra accommodation and food costs caused by any flight delays will be borne by each individual participant. This can sometimes occur with the flights to Simikot if the weather worsens in that remote, mountain area..
The Tibetans, Hindus, Jains and Bonpo consider the kora around Mount Kailash to be a journey of tremendous spiritual significance. I do not belong to any of these religions and do not see myself as a particularly esoteric person. But I too can testify to the tangible feeling of receiving a tremendous gift from making this journey and I know the others who have accompanied me have also had a very deep experience.
I hope all of the above has given you a good initial idea of what this June 2011 journey to Tibet will consist of and I really hope that some of you who read this will be able to come on the journey. It is a very special one.
But whether you are able to come with me or not, I hope that you visit Tibet and meet the amazing people that live there before too long. Change is happening at an alarming rate.
